Date

May 2023

Location

La Palma, Canary Islands

Oriented Design Studio II

Work done with Martin Droira, Ane Inclán, Lucciana Saavedra, Blanca Aguilo and Manuel Fuentes.

The purpose of this project is to develop an architectural and landscape complex on La Palma, which contemplates different areas, such as spaces for research, dissemination and residence for scientists. Its objective is to create a housing model that can be used in emergency situations, together with a landscape infrastructure that allows to appreciate and learn about the rich environmental heritage of the area.
The project will be developed in an area with a relatively triangular shape located to the
south of the municipality of El Paso. It reaches an extension of 46 Hectares and is limited, to
east, along the San Nicolás highway –buried by lava-, to the south along the edge of the
same lava flow and to the west by the curved line of Sector A determined as zone of
exclusion. The area includes the Mirador del Volcán de Tajogaite to the south, a great interest
geological, environmental and vegetal and a strategic landscape position due to its relationship
with the ocean and volcanic parts of the island potentially active.
The project has been designed in an open way, to allow different approaches and approaches. A compact distribution was thought, made up of several buildings that communicate with each other through ramps that are integrated into the landscape.
This project has focused on creating an architectural and landscape complex for La Palma that allows visitors to enjoy the environmental heritage of the area.
